So this year, one important gift I wanted to give Alex was doing something together. My hubby and I decided we'd all make wooden swords and daggers together. My youngest is into that kind of thing. So we all grabbed a pencil and sketched out on a piece of hobby pine the outline of the weapon we were going to make. Once they were all cut out with a jigsaw, we went to work. Alex whittled away on his while I whittled away on mine. Achieving a wonderful blister in the process. No bleeding wounds this time though!
I finished whittling the rest of the wood weapons, sanded it and wood burned them. I added some bling to one that I scrounged around for in the craft box. In total I think it cost $5 for both of them combined. It did take me 6 hours to make but it was fun for me.
I hope he has the same great memories that I had with my dad. The things that we tend to remember most is the time well spent rather than money overspent. I'll enjoy watching his face when he gets this present!
