To make the mini pillows, I decided to get creative....with kids socks! Some rice and lavender buds so I would be well prepared for the next earache.
- You will need a pair of kids socks. I bought mine for 99cents at a local shop.
- Lavender Buds, this is optional but it will help reduce anxiety related to the pain.
- You will also need rice, scissors, sewing needle, embroidery thread and a sewing machine to make the process go more quickly. If you don't have a sewing machine, no worries.
- Cut off the sock at the ankle, leaving the tube part of the sock for your project.
- Turn inside out and sew the cut side together.
- In a small bowl mix 1 cup of rice and 2 tablespoons of lavender buds
- Using a canning funnel (or soup spoon) pour rice mixture into sock.
- The sock will need to be filled pretty full. Sew the top edge closed using embroidery thread. This type of thread (I used 3 strands not the full 6) is stronger for this project.
- When an earache hits in the middle of the night, pop the mini sock pillow into the microwave for 30 second intervals until warm. Make sure the rice doesn't get to hot as you don't want to burn your child's face/ear.
- This can be reused for years!
